Traveling from the United States and Canada

There are a few commonly used travel options to reach the British Virgin Islands from the United States, Canada, and Europe.

The most common and budget-friendly route is to take a flight to St. Thomas and then catch a ferry from there to Tortola. Alternatively, flying directly to Tortola from San Juan or Antigua is a good option. This option skips the need for a ferry transfer, but is typically more expensive than the first option.

Flight & Ferry from St. Thomas to Tortola

Option #1- Fly into Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas Island (airport code STT). Take the ferry from St. Thomas to West End Tortola (40 minutes) or Tortola Road Town (one hour). This option is the most budget-friendly choice.

  1. Fly into St. Thomas Airport (STT) in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  2. Then take a 10-minute taxi to Charlotte Amalie ferry dock.
  3. From there, you'll hop on the Road Town or West End Ferry and enjoy a 1-hour scenic ride to Tortola.

Important: To fly into St Thomas, we recommend booking a flight that arrives before 3:00 pm to ensure you have time to catch the ferry. You can take a private water taxi if you prefer but be prepared to spend at least $600 for this service.

Flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Tortola

Option # 2- Fly into Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport. (the BVI airport code is EIS). It is a 45-minute drive from the Airport to West-end Tortola.

The steps involved in getting to Pelican Peak from San Juan, Puerto Rico are as follows:

  1. Fly into San Juan, Puerto Rico Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (airport code SJU).
  2. Take a short connecting flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico (airport code SJU) to Tortola's Beef Island Airport (EIS).
  3. After landing at Beef Island Airport, it takes about 45 minutes to get to Pelican Peak.

This option requires an additional flight connection before reaching San Juan. Although it is typically more expensive, it offers comfort and time efficiency advantages.

Traveling from Europe

If you are coming from Europe, it is best to travel via Antigua or St. Maarten. Several weekly flights are available from London to Antigua and from Amsterdam or Paris to St. Maarten. Once you arrive in either Antigua or St. Maarten, you can take a short connecting flight to Tortola.
